Already considered one of the best bartenders in Austin, Four Seasons Hotel Austin’s Sarah Rahl can now add the title “award winner” to her remarkable resume.
Held throughout the U.S. in several markets each year, Cochon555 has become one of the country’s premiere culinary, wine and spirits events since it was created in 2008 to support family farmers and promote education around heritage breed pigs. In addition to a food face-off amongst several local chefs, this year’s Austin competition featured five local bartenders going head-to-head in the Punch Kings portion of the evening.
In the end, after a presentation and tasting by the judges, Sarah’s Come and Take It cocktail was crowned the winner. Inspired by local, seasonal Texas ingredients, the cocktail combines Breckinridge bourbon, house-made grilled Fredericksburg peach syrup, Campari, lemon juice and a house-made citrus oleo saccharum. Topped with a tea foam since, according to Sarah, traditional punches were often tea-based, the cocktail is finished with miniature edible flowers, nutmeg and a fresh peach slice.
As the winner of Austin’s competition, Sarah will head to Chicago later this month for the Grand Cochon finals on September 30. There, she’ll prepare her award-winning punch recipe alongside the 13 winners from Cochon’s other city events in hopes of winning the 2017 National Punch King title.
“It was a huge honor to compete against such talented local bartenders, and I look forward to representing them and Austin at Grand Cochon,” said Sarah.
Those who can’t attend Grand Cochon in Chicago can still get a taste of the Come and Take It cocktail in the Lobby Lounge, where it will be the featured drink October 1-31, 2017. For more information, please call the Lobby Lounge at (512) 685-8150.More posts from September 2017
